At the request of the OBA (Public Library) in Molenwijk, we developed a training to connect young people and adults in that Amsterdam neighbourhood through stories. Many adults (45+) experienced the presence of certain groups of young people as a nuisance. Among other things, this reduced the sense of social safety.
We brought the two groups together to listen to each other’s stories. These were not directly about nuisance, but about feeling safe / unsafe. In other words: about “feeling at home” in the Molenwijk. The process ended with a presentation where they shared stories among themselves, where they told more about the workshop and they indicated how they want to use storytelling in future situations of conflict management, meeting up and increasing the sense of security.
